My previous best was finishing the round of 12 and getting 6 more thrusters. Today I finished the 15s and a thruster. PR by 25 reps!

The pull-ups did not feel good on my shoulder in the first 3 sets. Maybe it just went numb after that. I did 3 & 6 unbroken then when I had to do 3-3-singles I was worried. I think maybe it was just the quick turnaround from the set of 6, because I did the rounds of 12 and 15 with sets of 3s no problem. Thrusters were unbroken through 9, then 7-5 and 6-5-4. If I had to do it again soon I’d try the 12 unbroken, do the 15 in 2 sets and try to do chest to bar in all sets of 3 except for the 6.

The L-sits seemed a lot harder than usual after that workout. This was a tough little combination on the shoulders. I went 35-36-35-25 on double unders. Missed up twice back-to-back on the last set and didn’t have time to start back up.

I’ve wanted to do try these but always forget. Was reminded of them a CrossFit HQ video this week. Pretty fun. I did sets of 5 and started getting the hand of going from candlestick right into the kick up. For the second half I started kicking up with two feet at once which was something new for me as well. I felt like it worked the shoulders and strength more than a lunge into one leg up at a time.

Felt fine on the 800 but the rest of the runs were slow once my heart rate jacked up after those first 5 cleans. I just can’t seem to get my breathing under control and push the pace. I had no problems on the barbell, able to do pretty quick singles through the first 3 bars. The sets of 10 and 15 were a bit of a grind and burned the legs. With 95# I went 5-5-6-4 touch-n-go to finish at 19:02. Walked a 200 to recover.

DIY Projects

Didn’t make it to the gym yesterday. After not doing anything while gone to the Games, two days in a row was a good feel. We weren’t golfing today so I knew I could make it in for a workout. Yesterday I did build an agility ladder though.

I got started building a climbing peg board as well and finished it today, though I still need to sand out the holes because the pegs don’t fit everywhere. Both projects were a lot more work than I expected.

Made it in for the 4:30 class. I have been feeling pretty sore from the pull-ups the other day and all of the hole drilling and screw driving hasn’t helped.

Better Back

Went out and walked a quick 9 holes late last night in the heat and then got a decent sleep again. Back was stiff and had a few pain shots getting up and just after waking up. Feels pretty good once I get moving though. In for Super Sunday after missing last week.

I did the first 10 touch-n-go and then got 5 more in that first round. Did 5 touch-n-go in the second minute and then 7 more. Dropped all the rest, going 12 and 11 in the last two, to finish at 6:49, including the 3×1:00 rest. I did wear the belt to help with my back and it felt good.

I was trying to think of what would be a good time for this and kept coming back to 5 rounds. I thought the pace would drop off a lot more after the first round, so I was pretty happy to get done in 4 rounds with time to spare.

Triple Triple Double

Went to the driving range yesterday and again this morning. Right arm feels a little weird and I wonder if it’s from all of the swings. Did some bottom squat hold and stretching to warm-up.

Finished part 1 at 1:36. I actually felt really good during this part, but my heart rate sky-rocketed and I couldn’t recover during the rest. I was fighting it until the end of the workout. Part 2 was much worse than I expected. I’m glad I scaled it back from the original 5 reps of each I had planned early in the week. I knew it was going to be bad when I lost the 2nd snatch in the hole. I missed one in my last round too. Was a little scared about the bar muscle-ups since I haven’t done one since around March. Got the first 2 rounds unbroken without a problem and I think I would have been able to on the last round too, but my hands and the bar were sweaty. It wasn’t worth the risk of slipping and falling on my head, so I did 3 quick singles. Finished at 8:48 on the clock, so it took me 5:12! Had to rest quite a bit between each snatch. In the final part I went 10, 6-4, and 6-4 on the deadlifts, and unbroken on the box jumps, though no rebounding. Finished at 14:57 so part 3 took me 4:09. I wish I had pushed to do all of deadlifts unbroken.

Wow, didn’t expect to miss like that after I hit 165# forΒ  double a few weeks ago during a shoulder press, push press, push jerk complex. Must just be fatigue from today’s workout because all of the bench press increased should have translated to a higher shoulder press too. I was lifting barefoot, but I doubt that had anything to do with it. Wore a belt for the last few singles because I have a tendency to over-extend at max weight.

Feeling it a Bit

Tired from a late night at Greek Fest. Legs are fatigued and I’m sore in my upper back from the muscle cleans. Adjusted the Super Sunday workout because the Hero WOD that was planned would not have gone well. Didn’t do much to warm-up other than a bottom squat hold.

I did my first 4 rounds of push-ups in 10-9-6 and then 10-6-5-4 in the final round with shorter rest. Busted ass in the last round and a half and flew those air squats. Took me 11:54. Considering it was over 5:00 when I finished round 2, that’s more push than I planned on giving today.

Run Every Day

I was doing a bunch of yard work today and honestly almost forgot about getting in a run. If I can get up and run the morning of a competition I can run late on the day after. Too close to the end of the month to miss a day. Ran 2.68 miles in 27:40. Didn’t wear any headphones and was a nice night for a run.

One Week In

Fell back asleep until almost 8 this morning. Needed it. My abs are sore from the sit-ups Friday night and my legs are sore from all of the activity yesterday. Got up and headed out for a run since I know I won’t want to do it in the rain tonight.

Run Every Day

Went out slow with a 10+ minute mile. It was into the wind. πŸ˜‰ Couldn’t let my average pace have so many digits so I picked it up on the way back. Went 2.1 miles in 20:46. It said my average heart rate was 136, but the chart shows it spiking hard for the first 0.6 miles and there is no way that’s correct. Steps per minute were in the 170s too, which is becoming normal.

Seven days and over 15 miles, not including any running in workouts, like the 10x200m yesterday. Hopefully my joints get used to the running or this may not last the entire month.

I forgot I’ve done this before. It was a long time ago, in September of 2012, when I got 7+7. Today I went through the round of 8 unbroken for an easy PR and it didn’t feel bad. Then I think I went 5-4, 5-5 (or maybe 4-3-3?), 4-4-3, 4-4-4, and 3-3-2-2. It all blurs together. I finished 12 minutes and got 10 in the 13th. It started to get pretty terrible in rounds 9 and 10.

The cleans get so terrible and even in the first round due to bar-facing burpees being the worst. I was arm-bending and arm-pulling way too much and can already feel it an hour later. If I dropped too low in the catch of the clean I could feel a nice jolt of pain in my quad too. I broke up the rounds of DT into my usual breaks of 11, 1+8, 1+6 to get rest between movements and not do extra reps. Took me 10:35. I tried to push it on the barbell movements, but knew I needed significant rest in order to not break them up into more sets.

Push-ups started to go at the end of the second 3 minutes. They always get me.

We jogged an easy mile right after.

2,000m SkiErg

The fun part! First time trying long distance for time. From some rough comparisons with rowing I figured a pace of 2:10/500m would be a good place to start. That went out the window 5 seconds in after a 2:06-ish felt pretty good. I finished in 8:26.2 with 500m splits of 2:07.1, 2:07.0, 2:07.4, and 2:04.7 with a stroke rate of 35 for each split, so very consistent. I picked up the pace in the last 150m, which seemed like it should have gotten me more than a few seconds! Something to shoot for next time I guess.

Old School Sundays

Sundays at Survival Fitness have turned into old school days, back to before we had any good barbells. There were 23 people in class today! I was read to go after only back squats Friday and no workout yesterday.

I’m not sure why, but even the first round of hollow rocks was killing me. I would only get 4-5 rocks in at a time and eventually had to switch to doing them with my hands at my sides so that I wasn’t resting most of the 20 seconds. Everyone was complaining about the ab wheels, but I could have done those all day long.

There was no way in hell I was going to attempt this with the 45# DB. Single-arm snatches may have been what caused my shoulder impingement to begin with. The 35# DB allowed me to go unbroken each round. I switched arms each quarter of the way on the waiter’s walk so that I didn’t fatigue the shoulders too much. Finished in 23:37.

Did some shoulder stretching and a squat hold after class. When I got home I made sure to get in the Crossover Symmetry Recovery after that one. Stepped up to my normal light band for the 90/90 which is the one move that I had to go lighter on because of pain, so things continue to move in the right direction.
