  • 15/15 Lateral Leg Swings
  • 20 Alternating Groiners
  • 1:00/1:00 Samson Stretch

All neutral grip. Then 30 sumo deadlifts which I put in the metcon.

Conditioning

  • 30 Sumo Deadlifts (225#)
  • 30 cal Ski Erg
  • 30 Sandbag Squats (100#)

The Active Life program said to try doing the deadlifts unbroken, so I did. Took about a minute. I kept my pace at 800-830 cal/hr on the erg. Squats were done in two sets of 15 to finish in 5:35.

Active Life – Back Max

4 Rounds

  • 12 Curl-ups (3 count hold)
  • 12 Lemon Squeezes
  • 15/15 Single Arm KBS (35#)

Took me 9:18, though it wasn’t for time.

Getting Better at Burpees

I golfed on Friday, got busy working on the truck both Saturday and Sunday, and golfed again yesterday. So with the run last Thursday I hadn’t been in the gym or garage since Wednesday. Made myself go to the 4:30 class today, even though I should be pushing to get through these last 4 Active Life workouts.

“Warm-up”

5 Sets

  • 4 Tall Muscle Cleans
  • 4 Hang Power Cleans
  • 4 Power Cleans
  • 8 Burpees

I did 3 sets with the bar, then 75# and 95#.

Weightlifting

Power Clean

  • 3×135#
  • 3×165
  • 3×185
  • 3×205
  • 3×225
  • 3×235
  • 3×245

I think I did TnG through 205 and then dropped every rep at the heavier weights. According to BTWB that was a PR triple for me, which I thought might be the case. With 245# I caught with really wide feet on the 2nd rep and didn’t have my elbows all the way under with the 3rd, but was able to save it.

Conditioning

5 Rounds

  • 8 Hang Power Cleans (135#)
  • 12 Bar-facing Burpees

Chose not to Rx with the 165# since I already had in a bunch of cleans and then I could focus more on the burpees. Michelle gave me a good push because she Rx’d with the 110# so I couldn’t let her beat me. It was neck and neck but I was able to go unbroken on the last set to get a 4 burpee lead and then held on through the burpees.

So I did the 1st and 5th sets unbroken and I went 5-3 on the middle three sets. I made myself jump all of the burpees and I didn’t take any steps before jumping over the bar, so I’d take off right from wherever I jumped up to my hands. I think I did nearly every rep without a pause between the jump up and the jump over as well. Burned like hell though. Finished in 8:37.

Golf again tomorrow. đŸ™‚

In other news, I’ve cleaned up my eating by getting meals from Factor 75 and the food is amazing. I was down 8 pounds already on the scale this morning. I haven’t been this “light” in a year and a half.

20/20

Little sore from not doing much for a week. Out in the garage at night after work.

Active Life – Hips

Warm-up

  • 20 Side Shuffles (5m)
  • 2:00/2:00 Banded Posterior Hip Distraction
  • 10/10 Lateral Leg Swings

Workout – 4 Sets (2x each leg)

  • 10 Lateral Box Step-ups (33″)
  • 5 Eccentric Ankle Dorsiflexion
  • 1:00 Rest

Shoulder Press

  • 10×45#
  • 5×75
  • 5×95
  • 3x5x115#

My left wrist is still not getting any better.

Conditioning

  • 20 Box Jumps (24″)
  • 20 C&J (95#)

I very simple quick hitter. I did all step-downs from the box. Went 10-5-5 on the clean and jerks to finish in 2:17.

Active Life – Back Max

12:00

2 rounds plus through the dead bugs.

No Rest

I rested on Sunday after the stag party. Felt fine but was really tired. Golfed yesterday and went to the 4:30 class today. So the only workout I’ve done since Wednesday was the 40 minutes of Airdyne on Saturday!

Warm-up

9:00 AMRAP

  • 200m Row
  • 10 Goblet Walking Lunges (35#)
  • 20s Dead Hang
  • 10 Russian KBS (35#)
  • 5 American KBS (35#)

I got through 4 rounds.

Conditioning

  • 12:00 EMOM (alt)
    • 45s DB Snatch (40#)
    • 7 cal Row + 7 Burpees
  • 4:00 Rest
  • 12:00 EMOM (alt)
    • 45s MB Sit-ups
    • 7 cal Row + 7 Burpees

There was pretty much no rest time even with rushing between stations. I did 18 snatches in the first round because I passed it hand to hand in the air. Then I got 14 every other round. I went 20-18-18-16-16-20 on the sit-ups.

More cardio…

  • 150 American KBS (35#)
  • Run 200m every break

I tried to push the first set but had to stop at 70. Then did 50-30 to close it out so I only had to run a couple of 200s. Finished at exactly 9:00.

Stag

Golfed the last two days and had to mow the lawn yesterday too so all of that heat and sun meant I had nothing left for a workout. Up north at my parents for my brother’s stag party today, so I jumped on the Airdyne for 40 minutes and went 12.1 miles.

Side to Side

My triceps have been a little sore from Murph. Out in the garage late in the afternoon.

Active Life – Hips

Warm-up

  • 250m Straight Leg Ski
  • 5 Inchworms
  • 5 Sumo Inchworms
  • 5/5 Leg Abducted Rocking
  • 1:00/1:00 Sciatic Nerve Flossing

Warmed up with 8/8 single leg deadlifts using 45-95-125 pounds.

Workout – 4 Sets (2x each leg)

  • 12 Single Leg Deadlifts
  • 45s Bent Knee Hollow Body Hold

I used 145# for the first set on each leg and then 165#, which was about a max for that many reps.

Active Life – Back Max

  • 1:00/1:00 KB Psoas Mobilization
  • 2 Sets
    • 5/5 Split Squat Rock Backs
  • 10:00
    • Single Arm Waiters Walking Lunge (35#, switch arms every 10m)
    • Single Arm Press (35#, every other step, press when the leg opposite the arm holding the KB is forward)

Did them in the driveway instead of the garage so I could go 10 meters straight. Instead of 10 full minutes I stopped at 12 rounds (6 each side), which was 9:10 on the clock.

Hot Hot

I came down with a killer headache last night from being out in the sun. Feeling good today though. Out in the garage in the afternoon.

Active Life – Hips

Warm-up

  • 5 Pallof Series (each position)

Workout – 4 Rounds

  • 10 Dead Bugs
  • 20 Mountain Climbers
  • 5/5 Hip Airplanes
  • 10s/10s Standing Straight Leg Hold

Active Life Back Max

Warm-up – 3 Rounds

  • 5 Cat Camel + Rock Backs
  • 5 Inchworms

Then I warmed up with 10 Sumo Deadlift at 45-95-145#.

Workout – 3 Sets

  • 20 Sumo Deadlift (165-185-205#)
  • 30s/30s Sciatic Nerve Flossing

Conditioning

Real easy 10:00 Airdyne for 3.05 miles.

Ring Rowing Murph

It was scheduled for 11am, which always turns out well when the high temp for the day is in the mid 90s!

Murph

  • 1 Mile Run
  • 20 Rounds
    • 5 Ring Rows
    • 8 Air Squats
    • 10 Push-ups
    • 7 Air Squats
  • 1 Mile Run

My shoulder still doesn’t feel great on the bar, so I wasn’t attempting 100 pull-ups. I also figured I’d try something new to get through the air squats quicker, which is always what takes me so long.

Surprisingly I got in from the first mile in about 8:35. I was on a pretty steady pace of just under a minute for at least 5 or 6 rounds. Then I started resting more in the transitions and seconds ticked away. Ring rows were fine and I was able to get in some kip. After standing up I rested too much before getting going on the air squats though and with double the sets that added up. When I got going with the squats and committed I was able to bust through the sets of 8 and 7 at a much better pace. I downed some water and grabbed my shades before heading out for the second mile. I remember reading about 34:10 on the clock, which had to be after my short break. Felt like I was going so fucking slow on the second mile, but picked it up for the last 400 meters and finished in 43:10. Still not sure how I did that run in 9 minutes.

Definitely wasn’t setting any records today. The ring rows are slower reps plus the extra time of getting down and up from the ground. Pretty far off my best time of 37:11 in 2015, which I may never touch again.
