Fun Garage Sesh

Slept in again. Out to the garage around 11.

Weightlifting

  • 5 Squat Snatch + 5 Snatch Press (45#)
  • 4 Squat Snatch + 4 Snatch Press (75#)
  • 3 Squat Snatch + 3 Snatch Press (95#)
  • 2 Squat Snatch (115#)
  • 2 Squat Snatch (135#)
  • 1 Squat Snatch (155#)
  • 1 Squat Snatch (165#)
  • 10:00 EMOM
    • 5:00 – 1 Squat Snatch (175#)
    • 5:00 – 1 Squat Snatch (185#)

Planned all 10 minutes at 175# but it was feeling pretty good, so after 3 I decided I’d bump it up for the back end. Got a little iffy on the last couple with 185#, but no misses = a good day. I miss doing stuff like this.

I wish I had set the camera better so I could get the full bar path. It looks like it gets out a few inches from the starting point, but pretty good for not working on it in months.

  • Unbroken Double Unders

I’ve been wanting to test this one out for a while since I haven’t done it in more than 2 years. Perfect day for it. Went all the way up with no misses. Started taking breaks after sets around 30 or 35. On the way back down I missed once on the 40 and twice on the 30. Cruised home with no rest when I got to 25. Finished in 9:30 which is a PR by 4:05!!

That was a fun session.

Went to the chiropractor at 5 and then to the 5:30 class at CFi.

Warm-up

  • Bottom Squat Hold
  • 400m Run
  • PVC Pass-thrus
  • PVC Good Mornings
  • Air Squats

Strength – Deadlift

  • 10×45#
  • 5×155#
  • 5×225#
  • 3×265#
  • 3×295#
  • 3×325#
  • 3×355#
  • 3×375#
  • 3×395#

Haven’t really pushed the weight with deadlifts in months. Wore my belt for the last 4-5 sets and figured I’d see how it felt. I survived.

Conditioning

  • 100 Wall Balls (20#, 10′)
  • EMOM – 5 Burpees

Also known as Wall Ball Kalsu I guess. First minute was free for all wall ballin’ this time, compared to starting with burpees back in March, when I did 5:54. My minutes ended with 28-45-62-80, so I had to bust my ass with 20 reps left in the final minute. I usually get 10 reps in a Tabata round so I knew it was possible, especially if I was already descending into the squats as the ball hit my hands. The 100th rep was in the air as time hit 5:00 so that was good enough for me. 🙂 My rep counts during burpee minutes were 2-3 reps higher than that version we did earlier in the year.

Accessory

3 Sets

  • 14/14 Kroc Rows (70#)
  • 14 Ring Push-ups (feet on short box since rings were up about 6-8 inches.)

14 Kroc rows at a time is rough if you’re trying to keep a solid back position. I was sweating more from these than the metcon.

Crash Landing

Out in the garage around noon by myself.

Front Squats

  • 10×45#
  • 5×135#
  • 3×185#
  • 3-5-X-1 Tempo
    • 2×205#
    • 2×215#
    • 2×225#
    • 2×235#
    • 1+Fx245#

That sucked!

5 Rounds NFT

  • 10 Hip Extensions
  • 10 Reverse Hypers (green band on GHD)

I was cruising along and then crashed trying to get 45 on the way up. I couldn’t even get 15 or 20, so I called it quits around 9:30 in. Not sure what happened there.

Friday Night Throwdown

Got another solid 9 hours of sleep last night. In at 10am.

Warm-up

  • 300m Run
  • PVC Pass-thrus

Olympic Lifting

  • 7:00 45# Snatch Position Drills
  • 2:00 Rest
  • E20S 2:00 95# Snatch
  • 3:00 Rest
  • E30S 3:00 125# Snatch
  • 3:00 Rest
  • EMOM 7:00 155# Snatch

I missed the first rep at 155# simply because my head wasn’t in it and I wasn’t ready for it yet. It’s only 10# under my max snatch so it was a little intimidating to go at for the first time getting my hip into it. After that it felt solid though so I kept going longer than the planned 4 minutes. I’ve definitely never done 6 snatches of 155# in a day before. 165# next week and then on to the PR zone!

  • Unbroken DU

I finally finished this fucker today! 13:35 with only a handful of misses. I had a miss at 49 on my set of 50, which sucked. I felt like I figured out a more relaxed and paced tempo on my DU today because having to go unbroken really forces you to concentrate on not missing.

We took it easy in the morning because we went over to 989 CrossFit in Midland for their first Friday Night Throwdown at 7pm. We had no idea what the workout would be until we got there. After it was announced, I wanted to head home.

3 Rounds

  • 800m Run
  • 40 Pull-ups
  • 60 HR Push-ups

OMG FML! I am horrible at big sets of push-ups. I was the last guy to finish and Matt and Kevin were the guys in front of me, so we took the last 3 places for men. Michelle won the women and beat all of us. My time was 31:44. I’m just happy to have finished. It was good because I’d never program something like that.

Flying Solo

Legs are a little sore from the squats, hill sprints, and lunges yesterday so thought I’d take it easy and just do some cardio, but work on a skill at the same time. Went out to the parking lot with the jump rope. Warmed up with 100 single jumps.

  • Unbroken DUs

I got up through 35 in about 4 and a half minutes and then hit a wall. Since the last time I tried this, I also stopped and turned around at 35, I finally decided to do the same today. Took me a bit to get that set of 30 unbroken in and 25 was a struggle too, but after that it was fast and easy. Finished the Flight Sim 35 in 11:03, which is 3:48 faster than when I did it just over a month and a half ago. I’d say that’s pretty good progress on my DUs.

I did another 200 single jumps to cool down some. Not a big workout, but got the blood pumping, which felt good.

Snatch It Up

Yeah… still that right ass tweak. I’ve figure out that going up against the wall with the tennis ball is easier than trying to do it on the floor.

Warm-up

3 rounds

  • 60s Flight simulator
  • 60s “Cindy”

I’d never heard of flight simulator so let me describe it. You start off by getting 5 unbroken DUs, then you do 10 unbroken, keep increasing by 5 once you do the previous number. The goal is to get up to 50 and then come back down. Obviously that’s impossible in this scenario because we’re only doing it for a total of 3 minutes. I’m still struggling with the DUs, and couldn’t string together a 10. For “Cindy” we started off where we had left off in the previous round. I completed 2 rounds plus 5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, and 11 air squats.

Strength

On the minute for 10m

  • 1 Snatch
  • 1 Hang Snatch

This doesn’t seem all that bad, but the weight got heavy in the last couple of minutes. I used 95#, which is still the most I’ve attempted. I’m really liking the snatch and it’s such a cool feeling to take a weight from the ground all the way to overhead in one move.

WOD

10m AMRAP

  • 10 T2B
  • 10 Dips
  • 30 DUs

I didn’t do any scaling today. I did everything Rx because I knew I could use the DU practice (work on weaknesses right?) and it would mean less time ripping my hands doing T2B. I completed 2 rounds plus 10 T2B, 10 dips, and 11 DUs. At the beginning I tried doing kipping T2B but my body was swinging all over the place, so I slowed down and used a bit of a kipping motion to do one at a time and then reset myself. I did 5 ring dips in the first round because all of the racks were being used, then I switched over to the rack for the rest of the WOD. It took me around 2 minutes each round to get 30 DUs. Slow improvements on them. It’s so frustrating!
