Thirty on the Bar

My legs are a little tight from yesterday, but not really sore yet. Few other people seem destroyed, but I had missed the previous days workout. Went to the 4pm today.

Warm-up

  • Crossover Symmetry Activation
  • Hang Snatch High Pull
    • 2x5x45#
    • 5×95
    • 3x5x115

I don’t think I’ve ever done the pulls from a hang before. Thumbs are not used to hook gripping that much.

Weightlifting

Power Snatch

  • 3×95#
  • 3×115
  • 3×135
  • 2×155
  • 1×165
  • 1×175
  • 5x1x185

Supposed to be 5×1 @ 75% of 1RM, which would be 165 pounds. I was feeling good and haven’t put up much weight in a while, so I wanted to push it. I was catching with my feet much wider than I’d like, so on the last couple I tried to catch narrower. I wasn’t dropping under enough, so they were kind of ugly. Glad I can still easily get the weight up there though.

Conditioning

  • 100-80-60-40-20 Double Unders
  • 10-8-6-4-2 Bar Muscle-ups

I stopped every 20 double unders to keep my heart rate down for the muscle-ups. I think I had 4 or 5 misses. On the bar I went 6-3-1, 5-3, 6, 4, and 2. I wasn’t thinking hips enough in that second set of round one or I could have gotten the set of 4. Other than that I’m really happy with my sets, especially getting the set of 6 so late into the workout. Took me 9:29 to finish.

Bar muscle-ups have been feeling so good. I wonder how fast I can do 30.

My shoulder is feeling so much better, so hopefully I can get on the rings again soon.

Trying to Keep the Snatch Close

Had a “rest” day yesterday, but spent 2.5 hours climbing ropes and shit at the Adventure Park in Frakenmuth last night. So much fun and a lot of stabilizer muscles got worked, especially in the shoulders. Worked out by myself in the garage tonight.

Warm-up

5:00 Air Dyne

OLY

  • 4 x 3 x 75# Hang Snatch High Pulls
  • PVC Hang Snatch High Pulls and Hang Power Snatches
  • 2 x 3 x 75# Muscle Snatch
  • 4 x 3 x 95# Power Snatch

I was trying to work on keeping the bar close to my body on the 2nd pull and making sure to keep pulling with the arms. Results were mixed. I felt like it was damn close, but video showed the bar was still coming outside the starting line from where it was on the floor, often by quite a bit. It did seem to be getting back into a good position better though.

Strength & Gymnastics

5 Rounds

  • MAX Pull-ups
  • 5 Deadlifts (315#)
  • 2:00 Rest

I started out wearing the gymnastics grips, but they always seem to bunch up on my under the fingers and start to hurt like a bitch. They also didn’t work too well with the deadlifts. I took them off after the second round. The grips limited my pull-ups in the first two rounds, otherwise I would have had a new streak PR no problem. I got 16-11-13-12-11 pull-ups.

Finisher

Jumped back on the Air Dyne for 10 minutes at a pace faster than warm-ups. 242 calories and 5.52 km.

What’s a Rest Day?

Feeling ok today, but after 4 solid days in a row it’s a good idea to take a break from any high intensity. Went in at 6pm for Olympic lifting class.

5×2 Snatch Balance

Worked up in weight, but these didn’t feel very good. My shoulders were not feeling stable at all.

10×1 Snatch

Worked up, down, and back up in weight. Felt better than the snatch balance, but not all that great. I’m not sure what was going on, but I couldn’t even convince myself to drop under 145# today.

5×2 Snatch High Pull

These felt the best out of everything. I think I worked up to 185#.

Came home and while waiting for Kevin to come over, I jumped on the rower at a nice easy pace. In 21 minutes I went over 4,300 meters, which is about a 2:25/500m pace. Call it a recovery row I guess.

Instead of doing a typical 5 sets of X number of reps, I wanted to try something different today. So I strapped on the weight vest, which adds 20# to my frame, and did 5 sets of max reps for each pull-ups and ring dips. My weighted pull-ups kind of sucked and I only got 5-5-4-4-4. Although I usually start around 10# and work up, so maybe not all that bad. For the weighted ring dips I got 10-9-8-7-7.

First time using the new pull-up bar and it felt solid. After doing dips on the rings with weight, I think I’m going to have to do my ring suspension system over again because they are too far apart. I guess that will be a project for next year when I come back from Arizona.
